V

It's a show about an alien invation or something.

Channel 9 seems to be plugging this new show alot recently.

I remember when I was a kid there was a show called V, some time during the 80s, but I was too young to watch it.

Looks like this remake(if it is a remake) might be worth a look though.

I remember the original was super-cheezy and suffered from way too many 80's actors and their bouffants to let it work. Maybe it was the lack of readily-available talent at the time, but I reckon it was all just awful. LOL!! I remember scenes of one of the main alien baddies, Diana (Jane Badler), slipping a rat down her throat and turning to the camera to give it a stern and serious look that neither she or her hair-do could carry. LOL! Gotta love the super-nasty wardrobe too...

I suspect that the new version has a lot more money and talent pumped into it, judging by the commercials. Bring it on - it's all sci-fi and better than more footy on the box!

Yep Trevor. LOL! I've tried to re-watch many that were firm faves, and not think to myself "what on Earth were you watching?" Some were brilliant, some good, others atrocious. At school, I used to hate people that didn't like Six Million Dollar man!

I have watched the first 3 episodes of V and I liked them. There is a bit of violence but not a great deal ( aliens are taking over by stealth). Can't wait for the series to start.

How can anyone not like the six million dollar man........ or the bionic woman for that matter?

I had one of the dolls with a robot arm and bionic eye as a 7 year old. I remember on a trip to the UK as a kid, our family had a stop over in Bahrain airport and a soldier saw me playing with my Steve Austin doll. He came over wanting a look at it and handed me his AK47 assault rifle, which I couldn't pick up so it sat in my lap then sat next to me looking through his bionic eye. Mum must have been distracted because she appeared out of nowhere picked up the AK thrust it into the soldiers hands and snatched the doll back from him.

Mum still has a laugh about the look of disapointment I had on my face when she took that huge gun of me!

Regarding V, I hope it's better than than the 80's version

I think that was the only memorable part of the whole mini-series and sub subsequently poor series.

I remember that before the first episode they showed a British Airways advert that was all spacey and we didn't know it was an ad and thought "cool". Pity the show itself was tripe IMHO.

It's got to be better - it has Morena Baccarin (ex FireFly) in it! (Albeit without the long hair... )

I quite liked the first four episodes. They've changed a few things from the original 'V' such as characters and story roles; but other than that they've done a good job.
I liked it.

I'm quite looking forward to the remake, it should be a beauty.

I also enjoyed the original mini series. It's very dated now but was great in its time.

Does anyone remember the TV series they brought out afterwards, I thinks it was called "V" The Battle Continues or something like that.

Now that was pure rubbish, I think it only lasted a season.

Gawd Ric... I'm still getting my stitches out after that experience. LOL! Even as an a,b,c & d-grade sci-fi buff I couldn't bring myself to watch it.

Love it how they keep bashing us with these teaser ads, yet they don't tell us when they will begin screening it.

Also.
FYI.
Theres a really good movie called V. Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving star in it. Bit of a thinkers movie. Has historic relevance. May seem cheasy to some, but those who like a good thinking movie might find it interesting.

As most have mentioned, it was a TV series from 1983-1984, which suffered budget cuts towards the end (a lot of repeated sfx and scenes to save money).

1. V - The Miniseries (2-part) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_%281983_miniseries%29
2. V - The Final Battle (3-parts) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_%28The_Final_Battle%29
3. V - The TV Series (1 season, 19 eps.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_%281984_TV_series%29

These Wiki pages will give you all the info you need.

It starred Jane Badler (Diana), who later starred in the Channel 9 Melbourne produced Cluedo as Mrs.Peacock alongside Ian McFadyen. I met her several times whilst working at Ch.9 during the tapings.

Marc Singer was Donovan, the TV reporter, and I loved Michael Ironside in the The Final Battle (he played Lt. Jean Rasczak in Starship Troopers). Also starred Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger from Nightmare on Elm Street) as the soft alien "Willie".

I have the whole lot on DVd and watch it from time to time.

I am also a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica and original Hitch Hiker's Guide to The Galaxy, and never like their contemporary remakes, so I suspect I will not like the V remake, but I will give it a go.

The V is supposed to stand for Victory. There have been many discussions on how the V symbol is a symbolic reference to the Holocaust and this is explained by Abraham Bernstein in the miniseries. Many parallels have been drawn between the plot of V and Nazi regime such as the concept of recruiting young members of society to build up a fascist state and turning them against their families, the elimination of the scientists, the uniforms worn by the Visitors etc etc.) Plenty have been written and discussed on this for years.
