Horsehead Ha 300mm (7 hours)

Hello all,
Added more data to my original Horsehead Ha image...
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=54664

Added another 3hrs worth of data to the original 4hr image.
The total of 7hrs has brought out some extra detail in the "curtain" and smoothed things out too - posted the before (left) and after (right) low res images below for comparison.

Hi Res...

Cheers
Doug

Very nice Doug. You must be getting to the point of diminished returns. The image has certainly added to the detail with this extra 3hrs of data and I wonder how much more you could expect from another 3 hrs if any.
I love the field of view you are able to attain with this setup.

Thanks Duncan and Doug.
And Doug agree re the law of diminishing returns! Getting the extra data was kinda enforced to a degree - my neighbour has gone on holiday and left one of his backyard halogen lights on by mistake, ensuring that Ha or OIII are the only images I can safely take! No RGBs till his return!!
Cheers
Doug

Very nice.. I think its done wonders for the curtains depth and intensity.. it looks like the black point is a little elevated compared to the earlier shot though.. I don't think you'd gain too much by adding more data unless you went and added another 7~14 hours, and even then, the difference to effort ratio would be unimpressive. I definitely think it was worth your effort going from 4 to 7 hours though.

Agreed, a good improvement Doug.
Maybe try and brighten it a little as you've lost some faint deatil in the out flame region.

The added data has improved it a fair bit.
I see when i do some image flicking that you made the picture darker and lost a bit of nebulosity in the outer region.

Andrew was a bit faster than me

7hrs, champion effort! Definitely worth adding the extra data Doug, smoothed it out and increased the 'depth'.

The extra data has certainly increased the detail Doug and as you pointed out definitely a smoother image overall. This is a fantastic image and you've been well rewarded for your 7 hr effort

Have to agree with Andrew and Martin though the outer region detail seems to have diminished a bit in the second one.

Look forward to you posting the image with the added RGB you can grab when the neighbour returns home

Thanks all - excuses, excuses but it seems that the tiff - jpeg image compression helps in the loss of that fine wispy detail on the periphery of nebulae. It's there in the high res tiff but disappears on the jpegs honest!!

Anyhoo, here's a repro...
