Next NB venture NGC3372 Yet another Image added.

The start of the next venture into the world of strange colours.
This is only the Ha to this point. 20 X 5 minute exposures using the QHY8Pro with Baader 7nm Ha filter. Converted to grey using CS3.

Still collecting the OIII so it could be a long night but I think I might retire and let the imaging continue without me although something will probably go astray.

I managed my OIII run last night while asleep and have done a Ha,OIII,OIII = RGB synthesis.

I think the 5 minute exposures were not long enough for this target but thats all I did. So far 20X 5 min Ha and 20 X 5 minute OIII captured with QHY8Pro OSC cooled camera on Takahashi FSQ106ED. Still a few registration and alignment problems to overcome and the image was cropped to only show the nebula as the stars are nothing great.

The last image is a mixed up image of Ha,OIII and HaSII to put something diferent together. Explanation in my last post.

Thanks for the comments, I will now have to wait until work allows me to get some SII data but I doubt much will change up there. This was an interesting exercise but I now wonder whether to go for the SII or to redo the whole lot with 10minute exposures which will probably add a great deal to the image overall. I also want to capture some standard RGB so I can mask the stars and get an image a little more realistic.

I will see what happens with work commitments and probably finish this image first then try for something much longer. Eta Carina is a good target at the monemt with it starting quite low in the sky and allowing very long sessions. If only I was a bit younger and able to stay up all night without sleeping all day.

Thanks Paul. The Narrow band images seem to impart quite rich colour to the image. I am looking forward to capturing the SII component to see how this image looks with HST Palette colour scheme.

Hi Doug, I really like the Ha. If you deconvolve the Oiii prior to combining use it as color and Ha as lum layer you'll keep your stars tight with added details in the neb. That'll stop star bloating. Same for Sii when you get it. Then run a color noise reduction in PS and you'll get whiter stars. It's likely they'll get bright Cyan or Magenta with the Sii so color noise will reduce them to a whiter color.

Well the last 2 nights have been beautiful here but as usual I have been stuck at work on night shift. Tonight was to be the night but alas the clouds rolled in after 2 SII images, not much to work with so I have fudged the image a little using the 2 images I managed plus about 60% of the Ha channel so I could sit here and grizzle with something to do.

Overall the image didn't come out to bad and when I get some time off work I will try to finish this image. I doubt I have enough overall exposure anyway but here is the home made image I came up with.

40 degrees and cloudy, it's going to be hard to sleep anyway.

I am starting to see what people see in NB imaging as you can vary the colours to achieve a desired result without having to stick with any pre set conceptions of colours. Interesting to say the least.

Thanks for the tips Marc. The OIII stars were a little on the bloated side.
