Eta Carina

Have a Canon 10D to close the gap between the demise of the 40D and getting the QHY9.

Not modded 21x3 minutes, false flat and no darks.
Fridge temp on -2C.
Noise is almost none in the 10D at iso800 and -2C.
The most i miss is the HA sensitivity

That looks hot Martin! I wonder if I can fit that whole field with my C11/Hyperstar now. Great colors you got there.

Martin,

Not bad for a stopgap imager.

Looking forwarding to seeing your QHY9 images.

Well as a stop gap that's pretty good, colour is nice and overall image balance good too, only thing is and I'm not sure if you can see it on your screen (very obvious on mine) we can see where you perhaps lassoed (?) the main nebula and worked seperately on the nebula and the surrounds ...have another look, if you fix this it will be a more pleasing image

Thank you Marc. It would be good if you get a field like this with the hyperstar.

Thank you Mike.

The only thing i have done is select the stars and then reverse the selection so i work only on the back ground and nebula and not bloat the stars.
It might have been the false flat i used to get a flat field.
Will do some real flat fields today and see if that will get rid of the effect.
The good thing is that i didnt need any noise filtering with this camera at this temperature.

Martin.

Fair'nuf , real flats walk all over artificial ones.

Wow that's good smoothness then, what improvements are you expecting from the new camera?

The new camera will be the qhy9 mono with filter wheel, so it will be a dedicated astro camera.

This canon 10D camera will do for normal snapshots etc.
At the moment it sits in a peltier fridge and is big
Will do darks too tonight to see what they look like at -2C.

Martin.

Looks great Martin! If you can do that with a 10D at -2c, imagine what you could do with a KAF-8300 at -20c

Looking forward to your QHY9 images!!

Quite a nice image Martin, I just feel the nebulosity looks a little soft. Have you used a blur of some kind on the nebulosity to smooth it a little?

Nice stop gap.

Thanks Doug.

Nah i didn't do any smoothing on the image.
It might have been caused by focusser slip (still the original focusser on the scope).
Going to get an 10:1 focusser so the thing doesn't slip.

Martin, My advice is to save up and buy a good quality focuser, don't buy a GSO they are just as ordinary as the original one.

That's a terrific shot Martin.
The good old 10D huh?
This camera sparked my interest in astro photography when I saw an article years ago in S&T.
Soon after I bought a 300D and got started.

You've done very well with this shot, I really like it.

BTW you said "the demise of the 40D", what happened to the 40D, I must have missed it?
