Here's another one from Wiruna. 20x60s on Orion. I shot in the breeze for this one at the beginning of the evening so I lost a lot of subs and could salvage only 20min. Didn't realise until looking closely at the subs. Still turned out alright considering the integration time. There's a full field here. [2.9MB] . Wish I had done some flats though. All the brown neb around is starting to show so I'm confident that in the future with 5min exps and above and lot of them I'll be able to bring up a lot of data and improve contrast dramatically.
Great picture Marc ... so much from so little and all as good as it can be. Bet you cant wait to add more data later.
Thanks Jeff. Yeah I'm getting pretty excited about finalising the rig now and putting through its pace. I'm particularly happy with the stars in the whole field. I don't have to battle as much as with the newt when processing.
My only nitpick would be star diffraction patterns.. I suppose there is nothing you can do about that... However, nobody can deny that for only 20 minutes of exposure, that is utterly insane.. Once you get your flats sorted out you'll be pumping out some ripper shots for sure!
I'm still yet to get the deep Ha surrounds of M42, even in my most recent attempt a year and a half ago, which was 2hrs Ha + 4hrs OSC I just got hints of it, and it was noisy... Yours looks brilliant.

Thanks Alex. Agreed. The cables although better arranged are still "all over the place". Once I square 'em out it should be cool. That's an insane 20min though hey? Once I'm in a position to flat field and calibrate I wanna push this baby to 5min even 10min subs.

This stuff sucks light like crazy. I have one of the LMC/Tarantula area that shows stucks of reddish neb everywhere in front of the spider in the black/dark area. I'm checking with a couple of mates though coz I've never seen it before and want to know if it's real. I'll post it later on.
