Its very very quite, moves very smoothly, I cant detect any backlash, its b heavy - we have 15-40km/h winds at the moment and did't budge with the massive payload placed on it (see picture of scope and my son). Mick thanks for the EQ6 , Roger (BATSC), thanks for the refit and cleanup its a top job ! Lex (Star Optics) thanks for the great price on the SkyScan
I just set it up and plonked it on the ground, no polar alignment as such, just sorta southish and a rough guess on the latitude. So far I am very very happy. I will need lots of time to get to using this weapon well
They weren't long exposure shots but good enought to show it works. Antares, moon, venus, scorpio, and took a point and shoot shot near the triffid! i really need to set his baby up properly but it will be a hoot when it is working at full tilt
photo of the setup taken by my old minolta Dimage7 showing the pentax *istS and the 50-500 onthe EQ6. the bolts just touched the len's base and was able to hold it in place securely. Can't wait for the dovetail bar
Good one Dave, it sure is a bonus when things you buy turn out being as good as you hoped.
I am getting a new EQ6, would you suggest i get it serviced at BATSC before using it?
Great pics too
To be quite honest, yes, he will get rid of the grease glue they use and tune the worm drives and other bits to help reduce significantly the PE. I am very very happy. It cost $200.
Without giving away to much personal stuff how much does a set-up like that cost? well I paid $1000 for it from Mick, $920 for the Scyscan and $200 to have it redone by roger, plus freight
and would it hold a GS12"? you betcha, but maybe not for photography
Is that a camera attached to it? yes it is ken
If the smile on your face is anything like your sons you must be a very happy astronomer. Very nice unit.
Congrats David ! glad you are happy with your new mount and looking forward to seeing some DSO'S from you.
oh yes forgot to add, that hansom youngen must take after his mother
From time to time I get to work part time at BATSC. Roger showed me the work he did on your mount, he was very pleased how things worked out. Top piece of kit . The EQ6/SkyScan will give you hours of observing fun.

I love your new avitar Stuart ! I like the moon
My plan is to have a dual mount, the camera as shown one side, and a Intes m500 the other. Also, at a later date, I plan to have a bigger scope, either my 12" OTA or a 9.25 celestron. but that is way later
