Compendium - CAREFUL rubbing the page - the ink has not cured yet

Hi all - I thought that I'd just warn you before the bulk of you receive your 2009 Compendiums.

They are so fresh off the press that the ink has still not cured fully and is not yet totally permanent!!!

Wet or sweaty hands and fingers will REMOVE ink for a few weeks yet. Please be careful and handle them carefully for a while. Make sure that your hands are DRY and try not to rub the pages - especially near the edge of the page. Even rubbing with dry hands will remove ink if you try.

They'll cure - it's just that most full-colour commercial books that you buy have already been sitting for weeks or months on a shelf.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the warning.
I've had a similar problem with National Geographic mags before, turn the page and my thumb lifts the ink from the page... nice big thumbprint left in the photo

So best idea, put some christmas paper around it and put it under the christmas tree.

That way you know there is at least one present under the tree that you REALLY want.

Hehe, that's what I have planned for my copy!!

Thanks for the warning Chris, it really would be a shame to damage what looks (in the teasing snippets you have shown) to be a truly beautiful book by not being careful or not waiting long enough before luxuriating and pawing it's gorgeous pages.

Bump - still take care not to rub the ink off for a week or two yet. I was at the printers today and they've put the slow cure times down to the particular vegetable-based (read: "eco") inks used and the gloss substrate in some reasonably humid weather conditions.

Apologies for the inconvenience, but I feel that it's my duty to alert you to the facts.

I'm actually covering mine in satin-finish Contact this weekend so that it lasts for years. Noice!

What, Every Page?
That sounds like major task?
or is it just the cover that has the ink problem?

We should all be thankful that the days of fish emulsion inks have passed.....not only did they take ages to cure but they stunk like the proverbial prawns in the sun!!!

LOL! No - just the cover. I like my corners and edges to remain crisp and new - and have done since I was a school kid. Contact just protects it a little more. It's not as though I can just go and buy a replacement in years to come.
