The first rays of sunlight...

Here's another image from Lake Cootharaba last weekend. While taking some shots of the sunrise, I swung the camera around and caught the first bit of sunshine on this tree by the lake. Hope you like it.

Cheers,
Stephen

The only change I would've made is to frame the tree a little more to the right, so it's on the 1/3 - rather than in the middle.

This is the light that I live for.

Composition may be a bit iffy, but, I don't care. The light. The light!

Regards,
Humayun

Wonderful light Stephen. I agree with Mike - a bit too centrally composed, tree further to the right would have done the trick in that respect. My main criticism is the horizon - it's not level! That's a big no no in landscape shots I believe. Our judge for last months local photography club was really critical of it.

Thanks very much Mike, Andrew, Troy and Humayun! The colours did turn out nicely in this one - I think the grey clouds in the background help to bring out the colours on the truck and sand.

Good tip Mike. I agree, that would have been better. I should have remembered the rule of thirds! Next time...

Cheers,
Stephen

Thanks Dave. Oops, I forgot to check the horizon! Not the first time I've made that mistake either!

Cheers,
Stephen

I like it - the colours and light are great
Agree with Dave on the level, that's one of my frustrations at the moment. I wish I had one of those hot shoe levels when I was away, had ordered it online but didn't arrive on time

Yeah, lovely light. Nice, warm feel to it. And you've handled the exposure very well.

Thanks Adam. I should look into getting one of those levels as well!

Thanks White Rabbit!

Yes, that's the tree.
Is that one of your shots, or just something you found on the web? Looks like it was taken with the sun a bit higher in the sky.

Cheers,
Stephen

It's not my shot, I just googled the location and that site came up. The reason I was looking for the location is becuase as I said in my frist post, it would make a great timelapse subject. However central QLD is a bit far to travell from sydney.

Thanks
