Prominence - Nov 4th

This one appeared on the SE and grew over about 24hrs. Now measures approx 70,000km at max.

PST-B90, f/20, DMK21 camera.

thanx Folks. I thnk they start to be a bit meaningless unless theres some sort of perspective applied. even giving the heights doesnt have the impact that the floating blue dot has.

Your image is great. I certainly appreciate having the Earth for comparison.

I have the PST and DMK21 camera but still to get images like yours or Paul Haese.

What does B90 mean? And f/20, not f/10?

Hi Craig glad you like the pix.

My PST has been modded so that I can connect it to a large refractor giving me a bigger aperture and so more resolution (more detail). It has the PST box (thats what I call the "B") and a 90mm filter covering the front lens so the harmful solar energy doesnt blind me.
Like your PST it is an f/10 telescope, this means that if you divide the focal length (400mm for your PST) by the aperture (diameter of the front lens = 40mm) gives a value of 10 called the focal ratio (f/). Its the same for my modded PST, it has a focal length of about 900mm and an aperture of 90mm = f/10. Now if we use a 2x barlow lens we double the focal length and so double the f/ giving f/20. for a 3x barlow our scopes would be f/30 etc.

Some PSTs have a misaligned prism inside the focuser making the image blurred (called astigmatism). This can make it very hard if not impossible to get good images. Why not post some of your images and we can have a look. (or if you prefer PM me some).

Glad you like the Sun I think its fascinating.

Nice capture - I have tomorrow off and hope for some clear skies - I have been in Melbourne for the past 5 days and have no idea what has been happening on the sun.
