Mosquitoes

I hate them. They are the bane of my life. And in inner-suburban Melbourne tonight, they drove me inside!

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Use roll-on, not spray - protect your optics!

When you are all dressed up for the cold down here, there isn't much skin to protect from the blighters!

You're right, pretty rugged up, but they are darned annoying - and they seemed to manage to get inside clothing! Maybe they have matter transport beams...

Mosquitoes??
You don't know what mosquitoes are until you've met the ones we breed up here.
They're as large as medium sized moths. They can't do sneak attacks cause you can feel them when they land.
They have the ability to bite you through the thickest track pants.

Don't worry, I grew up in Darwin. I know aaaaaallll about tropical mozzies, so yes I do feel a bit of a wuss complaining about these southern ones... but they're still pesky critters! Even if they're solo flyers here, rather than arriving in squadroms...

The scotch greys are the worst I reckon. Followed by those ones with the yellow and black striped abdomens (we call 'em Dengue Mozzies)
But the tiny little black beggars, the ones that get caught behind the lenses of your glasses. Biting at your eyelids. Yowch. Many a night I've come back inside with my eyes badly swollen.

Pretty much the most terrifying experience I had in the top end was hearing the blighters change gears as they came in for the kill, they were ENORMOUS. Still get the nervous twitch when I hear the beggers we have in Sydney.

Aedes Aegypti - Dengue mosquitoe. Just to make you feel better:

I deliberately let this one bite me to get the image. BTW, only the female mozzie bites. They use the blood to feed the eggs.

I can tolerate mozzies, they are a natural part of the cycle of life and order of things.
