Obejective Lens for 80mm f/5

Hi All,

After a heartbreaking mishap with the above lens, I'm now in the process of trying to work out what to do. Is there anyone locally that could produce just the lens for me based on the focal length of the scope? I'm trying to avoid sending the tube to an early grave, but also trying to avoid purchasing a whole new scope.

Thoughts anyone?

Not sure about local but you could possibly try http://www.surplusshed.com/ or the classifieds section in CloudyNights

Or contact Tasco and see if they can supply you with the lens only from SKywatcher.
http://www.tasco.com.au/

Or maybe see if one of the local retailers can arrange it for you. Possinly Andrews Communications or Bintel or one of the others that carry Skywatcher gear.

Thanks fellas, just the support I need in this sad time!!

Surplus shed have an 80mm f/5 lens for about US$39, I'll see what Bintel can work out as a second option.

Tasco are doing some checks to see what they've got, thanks Netwolf

Silly question here, but they were asking me to confirm the lens diameter, I simply said it was 80mm at f/5, that should be all the info they need right?

Ide say that the reason why they are asking this information is that 80mm is the clear aperature, the lense needs somewhere to be held by the tube, so you will need a set of callipers to measure your old lense. that will give you the best replacement lens.

Ben,

I would have thought that if you told them it was for a Skywatcher ST80 telescope that would be sufficent information. They do list the ST80 on ther website. Item code is SW80.
Here is the link.

Yeah that's what I thought as well, I still haven't had a call back so I'll wait and see how it goes.

Brendan, the lenses ended up breaking more than a hip hop dancer on So You Think You Can Dance mate, I guess if worse comes to worse I could measure the internal diameter of lens cell, but fingers crossed they can find something based on the clear aperture and focal length.
