I set the scope up for the first time since astrofest last night to re-establish my polar alignment and then proceeded to have a play with the autoguiding settings. M16 was well placed for testing. In the end the guiding was working quite nicely so I continued to take 30x2min subs....here is the stacked image. Taken with the DSI II pro and 10" Newt.
Really nice shot Peter, very very smooth but its colourless - unlike your new focusser. A real beautiful green colour. Great shot as usual so stop raising the bar for the rest of us.
Really nice shot. I agree it looks very smooth compared to your previous M16. Did you do anything different with the processing or is this just the result of more frames.
I think we'll have to work out how to do false colour!
Very nice Peter, very smooth image overall but I feel you may have softened the image to a point where your stars almost look a little soft on the focus. I am use to seeing your images with tiny tight stars so this looks a little soft. Sorry
Thanks for the comments everyone. I did change the routine around a bit this time - sharpened first followed by some noise reduction so this has probably softened the stars a bit. I don't remember what subs I used for the previous image however this image was a bit over-exposed according to the histogram. Then there's the primary mirror that probably needs a clean!
I am not of the artificially smooth look school though so I would have backed off on the noise reduction just a bit but then what would I know, smooth may be the new mission brown? Some good resolution in the fingers.
You have outstanding resolution with that setup mate.. the pair of double stars that are just to the left of the pillars in your image are very cleanly separated, by quite a distance too... in most images you see of M16 those doubles close up and the stars look like funny elongated blobs... I've seen similar resolution in your shots of M83 and another shot you did a few months back (cant remember what the target was, but I remember commenting on the resolution) Your stars are also very tight..
