Here's a 3 panel mosaic at F/5 on my 5". Meant to do 6 panels to include M20 but the clouds rolled in around 12:30am so that was it
2 panels are 10x10min and the third only 3x10min due to clouds.
I stitched them in PS3 with the standard merge. Calibrated and flat fielded. It's the first time I tried using the QHY8 without the nose piece as to minimise the amount of glass in the optical train and internal reflections. So basically the sensor was exposed to all the air in the 55mm/2" spacer until meeting the glass from the MPCC. I blew dry the cavity with a hairdryer prior to assemble it and didn't have any icing or fogging problems. Fingers crossed.
It's amazing how much more signal you get in when you cut down on filters and glass surfaces. Hope you like them. Bit noisy in places but focus was good and held for a change. There's a big one at: http://www.multiweb.com.au/astro/sagittarius_pano_f.jpg [5MB] . Thanks for looking.

Very nicely done Marc. It's really frustrating when something comes in the way of completing a mosaic however the field you've captured sure contains some interesting detail.
Which hydrogen alpha filter are you using? Now that my new gear is almost on its way, I would like to maximise my investment by spending time out whenever I possibly can; even when the Moon is out and under horrible light pollution.
Thats a fantastic image. What noise? There must be some obviously by the comments but looks smooth as anything to me. Does the Ha filter remove the moonlight so its as if you are shooting with ni moon. If that is the case I want one. Well done on the mosaic.

Thanks Marcus. No I don't think I'd be able to match the stars to do a blend with this. Next new moon I'd like to try to do a couple of galaxies at long FL weather permitting.

Thanks Peter. I checked the full field afterwards and realised that M20 is just on the edge so if I framed bit lower I would have got it in oh well...

Thanks mate. Yep, there's a fair bit of noise in the dark areas. That's where a dark site and new moon week-end wins hands down.

Thank you. I didn't too much to stitch it. PS photo merge works quite well and it does the job . Not as precise as what Bert does with Registar and a master frame but I don't know how to use Registar well.

Thanks Mark. The Ha filters a lot of unwanted light but strong moon glow will still affectyour pic a bit, especially sky glow in the dark bits (grainy dark areas)
I think adding some colour will give it a real punch, however as Mike said, she's a beauty as is! even if you do add colour, keep a copy of this B/W image for its simple yet striking beauty!
