Cambroon 12/09/09
This will be the last CAMBROON night for 2009
Normally the night would be the night closest to the New Moon, but seeing that it is the weekend of the "Barambah Dark Sky Camp I have brought it forward one week
The Moon does not rise till after 01:05 Sunday morning so there is plenty of time to do Astronomy before then
So lets make this a good last night for 2009

Hi Ron,
I would have loved to have come up for the night, however I will have to decline with regret!!!!!
Unfortunately, SWMBO has booked a night away with the girls up the coast on the 12th. Something about her having some time away to square the ledger after I went to Astrofest - I'm not sure why she get to go to a resort for the weekend when I was only camping at Astrofest for three nights???????
However, after reading the AAS thread that Jeanette started, I do think that I am quite lucky with spousal support and will wait patiently for a trip to Cambroon for next year. Have a good time away later in the year.
David T
P.S. The 12th is the night of RiverFire in Brisbane - keep a look out to the South around 7:30 and 8pm to see if you can see the dump & burn from the F-111.

I can't make it next weekend Ron. Not sure about Barambah at this stage. Didn't think I could manage it, but if there won't be any Cambroon dark sky fixes might have to reconsider that....

I looked up Cambroon and realised I have been there in the late 80's. I used to do a lot of Marlin fishing off Maroochydore
This was when Haileys comet was about, and what a sight it was

I moved here in 1990 Maroochydore was a lot less crowded in those days.
you would have only passed through as there is nothing to stop for except the national parks, and Kenilworth 10kms just up the road.
I hope you let the Marlin go
Ps we did a public viewing night for Halley's Comet at Corbould park horse race track, with what seemed like a thousand people, people still turning up near midnight.

I always let the Marlin go (tag & release) beautiful fish. Used to keep a few Yellowfin tuna to eat (Sashimi).
I remember running over a large Python that was crossing the road somewhere near there.(felt bad about that !)

I AM like you I feel bad when I run over any animal, it is nearly always to late seeing them , but sometimes I catch sight of them in time.
One doesn't hear much if anything about the Marlin fishing of the Sunshine Coast anymore .

Yes Andrew, Blink and you miss it
But it is far enough away from the Coast and Brissie to keep the light pollution away

Hi Cambrooners. Had a chat with Ron at Barambah on Sunday and it seems he will be off on his expedition to all parts south and west before the next new moon. This means Cambroon will be off the menu until Ron gets back.
But be of good cheer! The alternative site will be Ten Chain Hill near Somerset Dam until we hear Ron is back.
October's New Moon is the 17th so let's schedule the Friday 16th and Saturday 17th as the next New Moon Madness. I'll open a new Ten Chain Hill thread in this forum for the purpose.

That's very exciting news Peter. I had wondered about emailing you with pleas for access to 10 Chain. Will watch for the new thread with great interest.
