Thanks Dennis. The series wiring sure is easier. As I decided on 12V I've ended up with two parallel sets of two series LEDs. Wiring and test run now complete and it works! I've attached some pictures of the process.
I haven't decided how to attach the top yet. I don't want to glue it as I might need to get to the internals one day.
And here is my first attempt at a flat. I'll need to read up on camera settings to use as I have no idea. I was a bit worried that the LED's I selected wouldn't be bright enough when I first fired it up but ended up having to to dim them down to get a grey image. I can see the light bar in the bottom of this flat similar to what I was getting in my un-calibrated lights. Hopefully applying flats will take care of that.

Hi guys, been watching these threads about jumbo sizes light boxes. It seems really impractical to me to have something the size of 4 kegs of beer in volume to shoot flats. I have a simple EL sheet thin enough to fit in my laptop case and put on top of the scope while still tracking. What's the deal with big light boxes? Do you guys make them because it's a good project to build them or am I missing something? I thought the EL sheets work just as fine....

I have a simple EL sheet for my refractor but have you managed to get a price for one for my 16" LightBridge?? Hence the large Light Boxes!
Got mine a year ago from the states so shipping killed me but I reckon you could pick any size locally from an Oz supplier? I paid around $100.00 with the power supply at the time.
Peter, I was thinking of doing much the same as your great effort. I assume you used some sort of craft board, also what glue did you use to secure the box parts, if you don't mind. I am thinking of purchasing the strips of white LED's from Jaycar, each strip is rated at 12 volts.
Maybe not once you bought a 4x4 to haul it around. 
Stick a couple of white sheets on top, 1x100w bulb in the middle and you got a lightbox on wheels . Yay!
