Jupiter from August 3rd

Here's a shot mainly of the GRS region from last night. The WIS was just coming into view but my telescope isn't balanced well and I was losing tracking after Jupiter started descending into the West for the night. Seeing was very good and transparency was good (especially for here). I may see if I can get a softer look, all I've really gotten so far is fuzzier but I may be able to get the detail a little finer...not sure...this is where I struggle . I'm very glad to have gotten a good night!

Wow Dave, that's a stunning result. Incredibly detailed.

Probably a tad overprocessed, but only just. Very nice indeed.

Thanks Mike. I was using the same settings as when the seeing was softer but I was thinking the same thing about the overprocessed look. I'll try backing off a bit and maybe I'll find something that works a bit better. This was the red channel right out of Registax (after wavelets). I probably need to begin there...

That's just a beautiful red channel. I haven't seen seeing like that in over 12 months.

Hi Dave

Well, well, well, that is quite an extraordinary image of Jupiter. The red channel looks quite spectacular – top stuff, especially given the relatively low altitude for you guys in the North!

Cheers

Dennis

Good work there Dave, love the R channel, isn't it a shame that the B channel never achieves such resolution. I suppose its the price we pay for living below the atmosphere.

Regards
Trevor

Less is better

At first this second image looks very similar to the first but the reprocessing I think makes it look a tad better and reduces the overprocessed look at the same time - win win

"isn't it a shame that the B channel never achieves such resolution"

Isn't that the truth Trevor. Since you mentioned it, I compared my blue image from this night to the green image from my impact photo a couple of nights earlier. The resolution is about the same and the noise is less with the blue. So the seeing helps but there's only so much that comes through all of that atmosphere that just loves to play with blue light.

Nice image Dave, slightly over cooked but still very good, given that it would be low in your skies, you must have had very good seeing on the nice.

One More

It's hard to see the overcooking until I get something that's a bit better (maybe I'll start to know what to look for one day). This was the last run I did for the night and lo and behold it may be slightly better although I wouldn't have put money on it originally. Thanks for all the helpful comments!
