C-9.25 Peltier Cooling

I was wondering how the results on a Lymax type peltier cool are, or if I should go with the internal Peltier mod. I made a homemade Lymax type cooler, and it worked but due to it probably never reaching ambient temp the results were great but only temporary. Your advice would be greatly appreciated to help my planetary imaging!

Hi Mitchell, I have a peltier cooled mirror on my newtonian, and Paul Haese (rumplesriot) modded his scope as well. A few people around here are trying that path now to get better images, including Trevor (quark) on these forums.

Have a look hre and you'll see quite a few threads and discussion about it:

The C9.25 has an unusual back that is not flat, and is alot smaller than the 14". I was wondering if it was possible to install two peltiers, and one exhaust fan where the back is flat. Also will the inside of the 9.25 have enough room for the install.

Thanks,
Duke

I have a vague recollection of Paul (rumplesriot) having a look at doing this with his C9.25 when he owned one ... and concluding there wasn't enough room.

Mitchell, you might think about building a modified cat-cooler that has a peltier sandwiched between the inside and outside halves, with the fans on the inside just used to circulate air and not exchange it with the outside.

You'd need one set of small fans on the part that goes into the tube, and another set on the outside (heatsink) portion to get rid of the heat.

Something like this would work on any SCT style scope.

cheers, Bird
