I made this photo on a chilly morning when I went for a walk along the Diamond Lake track. As I reached one of the summits of the walk, I was rewarded with this beautiful view.
It was an overcast morning, and, so I waited a while for the sun to come out before shooting the scene as I wanted to capture the golden tufts of grass in the middle of the scene. I was also lucky enough to capture sunlight striking the mountains as some thick, heavy cloud lapped on the peaks.
Thanks, mate. I'm glad the emotional aspect of the image hit home. A number of people I've shown have mentioned that my images resemble paintings. I couldn't ask for a greater compliment.
These sorts of scenes are to be found everywhere around the south island. I wish I could quit my dayjob and trek for the rest of my life.

I stopped doing HDR after my European holiday. It is very hit and miss. When you miss, it comes across as very amateurish. I have learnt, and continue learning, that it is more important to get the exposure right in camera than to waste precious hours afterwards in post processing. I provide the exposure details under the image so that people realise that these aren't HDR.
It is obviously a stunning scene to start of with, however the effect of the random sunlit regions within it add just that something very special to the overall feel of it.

Thanking you. In the print, I can see all these boulders on the foot of the mountains. The amount of detail the 5D Mark II picks up is astounding!

I have several more from this location I'm yet to process, however, the colours in the grasses are all very similar across all the images. I do tend towards saturated images as a stylistic thing, but, I think it works.

That's a mad shot. The foreground looks real enough, but the background looks like a high resolution painting. It certainly holds my attention and keeps me looking.
My whole intent with landscapes is to present an image which looks like a painting. I'm really glad that that has come through in this image, too.
