My Latest attempts!

Jupiter 28/06/09

8 inch newt on eq6 pro, sidereal tracking.
Toucam through 5 x Powermate
Captured KCCDtools
Processed in Regisatx 5, Astra Image and Gimp.

I thought the seeing was pretty good, although I got so rapt up in what I was doing, missed a pretty high band of cloud, so some of the captures aren't quite as good. Still working on a few others but this is the first that I'm happy with.

There's a small dark shadow on the right side of the planet which I think may be dust or dirt on the toucam filter, I wish you could see this while you were capturing, ah well.

Comments / Tips appreciated.

Darren

Nice one, mate

Hope you don't mind, but I did a quick repro in Photoshop CS3...just to bring the image up a little and see what's there.

Just a little levels adjustment, some colour channel tweaking, and a little high pass sharpening.

I checked an astro program and can vouch that's a moon shadow at the right limb... which I think is Europa's shadow.

You've also captured Ganymede in your image.

And of course, the Great Red Spot.

Well done!

Thanks Matt!

Yes I can see there is still more to bring out, really great to see the shadow on the surface. I've never captured in that sort of detail before!

Thanks.

Thanks

Thanks guys.

I'm finding the planetary stuff quite enjoyable. The one thing I've noticed is how delicate every adjustment needs to be. Precision precision, precision.

Now all I need is some more days off and some good weather, although Melbourne doesn't look to good for the next week, we should get some good rain that may help remove some of the dust and muck floating around.

The other half seems reasonably happy I seem to be getting good results from my recent purchases!!!!!!!

Take it easy.
