Moon, Venus, Jupiter & Canon 20D (Sep 6th 2005)

Andrew,

you did a nice job with the moon, and that radio controlled aeroplane that you flew in on the 4th photo, a bit over exposed on the moon in the last one. Love the landscape!!!

I really like the one with the aircraft flying through.... I took a pic last week of the Spica/Venus/Jupiter group with the International Space Station cruising through....
like the panoramic one showing Arcturus too... nice

Sorry about posting the images and rushing off guys. Had to take care of a few things.

Yeah Houghy that last one was overexposed

, was rushing tonight.
And yes that plane was SBIG autoguided (So Big on AutoPilot)

Didn't know how to set mirror lock

on 20D.

Fringe- I used a combination of equipment. The closeup moon shots were on prime focus thru Orion 80mm ED.

Landscape using the Canon 10mm EF-S lens.

The other two were snaped using the standard zoom 18-55mm lens.

Have to give the 20D back tomorrow.

Love that moon shot Andrew. I took a couple of snaps this evening but nothing good enough to put on here, auto focus is nothing but a problem for me when it comes to taking pics of the sky

wish the camera had a manual focus and it might be easier for me..

Really nice Andrew, I love the last 2 shots, and the wide angle landscape one is superb. I expect to see these on spaceweather again

Nice images Andrew. Just in case you get to keep it a little longer, Mirror lock is only available in the creative modes (Manual or auto override NOT full auto). Switch to one of the modes P,Tv,Av, or M and select custom functions from the menu. Mirror lockup is item 12, you may also want to set long exposure noise reduction in item 2 (the 20D takes an equivalent exposure dark frame, and applies it, after the initial image) . Mirror lock works on the first shutter press followed by the shutter firing on the second press. If you're using bulb (manual timing) you need to keep the shutter button pressed for the duration of the exposure otherwise it's 30 Seconds Max. The one thing I've learned about the 20D is that you need to know it inside out if you're taking it outside in the dark.

You might as well buy it now....

I didn't have the manual for the 20D and because it wasn't mine I didn't want to muck it up.
And you don't need to twist my arm about buying one Phil, I couldn't sleep last night.

Hey I know, why don't we do a swap, I'll swap you my green laser for your 20D,
