Good news- Andrews optics has discounted there Dobs! Now the 10" collapsible is only $799
A few questions tho.

Skywatcher Black Diamond 10" Collapsible Dobsonian vs SkyWatcher Dobsonian 10"-

Skywatcher Black Diamond 10" Collapsible Dobsonian - $799.00
SkyWatcher Dobsonian 10"- $949 w/IIS discount = $804.35

Your view?

What would you choose!

If space isn't a problem i'd go with the solid tube. Could be put on a EQ mount in the future and i imagine it'd be easier to collimate. Not sure on how experienced you are so this may be a non-issue though.

Can't go to wrong with either really.

Hi Arman,

I agree with Andrew, If you want to use the dob later as a Astrophotographic scope, then the 10" solid will be able to be mounted on an EQ mount later relatively easily. The collapsible one wont be possible (at least until someone designs something.)

The 10" Dobsonian is about at the "comfort" limit for one person to move around by themselves without too much difficulty, and certainly if you need to, the 10" collapsible can be picked up and moved while still assembled on the base. Its probable that you would have to move the solid tube in two parts if you are by yourself.

In a nutshell;

* If you want to go to Astrophotography later on, buy the solid tube.
* If you want to have more portability, buy the collapsible.

Either way, you are going to love the 10", bang for buck, portability and aperture size is pretty darn good.

I took advantage of my wife's pity and got the 12" collapsible, but it costs $700 MORE than the 10" so go for the 10, its a great sized scope.

Cheers

Chris

P.s.

Gerry Gibbs Camera House in WA has the 10" solid tube as a web special for $640 plus delivery. There have been a few people buying scopes from GG camera house recently and by all reports, things have went well.

Quite a decent saving compared to the York price of $805!.

Good luck

Chris
