Titan Shadow Transit animation 28/03/2009

Hi All,

This animation was created from R channel images taken every 10 minutes from 11:40 UTC to 12:20 UTC 28/03/2009.

Each image is the best 400 of 850 frames from that particular avi file.
The avi files were converted to bmp's in Virtual Dub and then cropped aligned and graded in PPM Centre. Stacking and applet processing was done in Registax V5 and LR deconvolution was done in Astra Image Pro.

The animation represents the best 4000 of the 9350 frames available.
One of the eleven images was not used as it didn't come up well enough.

The seeing was extremely variable, quite good early 7 / 10, but dropped off considerably later in the night to about 5 / 10. This has effected the last few frames of the animation.

Thanks for looking
Regards
Trevor

Great stuff Trevor. You can definately notice the seeing dropping off towards the end, and the animation is a perfect example of how sometimes you just have to get lucky with the seeing conditions!

Thanks Bird, every time I do this stuff I find ways to improve the result. There is no doubt that using Virtual Dub and your most excellent ppmcentre adds considerable time to the processing, however the improved result is worth it. As I become more familiar with all of the software involved I find more opportunities to improve my processing. I now have all of the bits and pieces for my peltier cooler and am about to commence bench testing to establish the most efficient configuration.

Thanks Andrew, when the seeing is good out here at Broken Hill, it tends to be good for the night. That the seeing dropped off substantially during this sequence is unusual

Yep Kev, finished imaging by 11pm local but stayed up until 2am processing the first few avi files to see how it turned out.

Thanks Steve, as another astro imager you are aware of the effort that goes into stuff like this and I appreciate your encouragement.
