I've never seen an episode of star trek or any of the movies. Just not into those sci-fi things.

Unlike Jen, I have seen every Star Trek episode and movie.
Yet one of the saddest things I read in this is what you have missed out on. The true terror of the Borg, exploring the possibility of humanity's optimistic future, dreams of exploration, or even Shakespeare in the original Klingon (only because everyone dies), etc.
Haven't you ever wondered where the common Star Trek catch phrases have come from? I.e.
Beam me up, Scotty,
Resistance is futile,
Live long and prosper,
Today is a good day to die
Space, the final frontier.

An extraordinary confession...

(Though I have never seen the movie "Titanic" or any of "The Shrek" movies - which someone said of me was a more shocking confession!)

The heads of Society of Astro Geeks (SAG) has met, and discussed the offence. The Society is deeply saddened and ashamed. SAG's meeting concluded with a decision of what action was to be taken. The verdict on this matter of Jen, Cosmic Girl, not viewing "Star Gate".
The verdict reads:
Events taken into account were; this being a first offence, and the defendant voluntarily came forward with her admission. Therefore, it is the ruling of this Society that Jen, Cosmic Girl be sentenced to any one of the following:
a. Watch one full episode of Star Trek.
b. Post on the beginners forum of IIS 7 days in succession, The reply or new thread is to be at least 20 words and contain more than one emoticon. (Script must be purple)
c. To your husband, vocally declare, " I am an astro geek".
or d. None of the above, 'cause you can say you did it and we at SAG have no way of knowing.

Astro Geeks rule.

I used to love star trek as a kid, but I never got into any of the new stuff or the movies. I also loved Lost in Space and the Time Tunnel, and It's About Time and all sorts of sci fi stuff as a kid, but fortunately some of that is no longer around.

I've never got into Battlestar Galactica or Stargate, etc either.

But the sci fi I do enjoy includes, Star Wars, The Hitchhikers Guide (In all it's forms), MIB and MIIB, and Discworld (mainly books but The Hogfather is a good movie).

I have to say , I'm with you Jen, I have never watched any Star trek movies.
If you tied me to a chair and made me watch it well... who knows I may enjoy it but it is not something I will go out of my way to sit down and watch.

I might have the odd one or two but nothing serious... really . Perhaps you should start your scifi adventure with some light ammusment, red dwarf, spaceballs or hitch hikers guide to the galaxy come to mind. Dare I say the original star trek episodes were pretty lame in any case.

Of all the star trek series, I think Voyager is the best.

I think I was born into watchin Sci-Fi, after growing up with Dr Who at 6:30pm on weeknights on the ABC. (Tom Baker)
But I had great entertainment beforehand, to get me in the mood, hehe "the goodies" was the best.

I just hope they do the latest Trek movie good and not wreck the saga.
