Couple of carbon stars

Tried to spot these in scope, but toooooo hot and muggy.... sweat pouring off me, and couldnt concentrate with telescope, through which everything was blurry

Was hoping to see R Leporis, and W Orionis, but got them in a photo anyway.

Also tried to catch Mercury, Jupiter and Mars, early this am ... but clouds lurking in that area, mangaged a couple pics, but focus off a bit ...grrrr.
Jupiter and Mars were very close together, with Mercury up above.
Was a beautiful sight anyway.

Well done there Liz.

I also agree that the colour seems to stand out clearly fore the Carbon Stars.

Nice image.

Dark bands??

Liz,
Don't know the exposure for your photo/ image, but it looks very interesting on my screen.... there appears to be numerous dark "bands" just north of Sirius and a neat "dark feature" along an edge between YY and S Lepus.
Just checked Uranometria (map 154) and it shows this area to be devoid of any stars above 9.7mag.
Does anyone else see these dark areas??????

Thankyou Trevor and Geoff, they are certainly reddies.
Merlin - i dont know, I can see some darkness near S Lepus, and a few dark lanes scattered here and there, though not particularly north of Sirius.
The lens for those was a Sigma 17-70/f 2.8. 30 sec at 2.8.ISO 1600.
Here is another from that night, and one from tonight.
I had changed white balance from shade to tungsten.
