Side by Side Setup

l've made up a 12mm x 250mm x 500mm aluminium plate to be used as the base plate for my side by side setup on my G11. This will be my portable gear and carry a reflector on one side and 2 stacked refractors on the other.

The idea is good Mick, and I too have something similar, the only thing I found with this sort of set up is that your mount limits are vastly reduced, and one has to set them pretty accurately other wise there will be damage. nice job

That's what I found as well Leon - which is why on my G11 I went "up" rather than "out" too. Nice engineering though Mick Lots of real estate for all sorts of guff. What's the weight of the combined plate, reflector, two refractors, guide and main cameras plus cables? Any idea? By "reflector", do you mean your de-forked 12" LX200? I'm not sure the G11 is beefy enough for an LX, two refractors and other stuff...... photography is going to be less than optimal at this weight I reckon....

Chris, l have been looking at it and l may orientate the plate the other way, it will still allow me to go side by side. l am mounting an 8" f/5 reflector, 100ED F/9 and a Megrez 90, all up with cameras just over 22kg so all should be good as far as weght goes.

Phew..that's better. I was afraid that you'd be putting up the LX - which would just overload the mount with all the other stuff.

Well then...carry on!

Looking forward to seing the final result Mick

I'm absolutely sure that it would have been Mick. Not only I, but Humayan has used it with the Argo going - on more than a couple of occasions each. Pushing to any object in the database always ended up with that object smack in the middle of FOV. Accuracy was set to 2 decimal places, and I remember it was pretty accurate - a little too accurate if anything. I always tried to nudge to "00" - right on the money.

Are you having problems? Maybe call Zane on this one. He'll be able to answer straight away. Unless he sold the mount with one of his other Argos (he had five at the time) it should be right to go.

Yep, I can attest to having used that mount, on many an occasion, with the Argo Navis, and it worked like a bought one.

Regards,
Humayun

Ditto here. I've used my AN with the SbS setup for about 2 years now with no issues.
