I’ve used K3CCDTools with a Philips ToUcam and IC Capture with a DMK camera and both applications have the ability to save the file with the date and time embedded in the filename.

Is that what you mean? Or, do you mean each frame of the AVI?

Cheers

I don't know if it can be done accurately with a webcam.

If you go to a video camera such as the G-StarX then you can use a Kiwi-OSD:

yes i was trying to avoid spending more money..and it was for that same purpose, timing occultations..there's this one next month at Parkes i was thinking of going along to

Dave Gault has been saying it cant be done with a webcam, but i just wondered if things have changed over the last year or so

oh well it may be shouting "gone"and "back" visually i suppose- i sucked at this on my previous attempt my reaction time is appalling

Have a look at Virtual Dub Narayan. I wouldn't be surprised if it does it.

Ok I found-just in time for the lunar graze ZC3444 - 6th December, visible from Parkes (well actually closer to Forbes but Forbes doesnt have a radio telescope eh?) this brilliant piece of freeware that will capture at 30 fps and also timestamp as you go

it's called Debut Video Capture and its free

with luck and weather permitting, hopefully I can demonstrate that you can use a common or garden webcam to observe an occultation-wish me luck
