If its cloudy lets see if we cant arrange some imaging tutorials. Keen to pick up a few tips from the iceman on the finer points of Registax if I can twist his arm.
Heres hoping for nice weather though.

Don't worry about it yet, Mike! It's still early days... Besides even if it's cloudy there'll be plenty of stars at IISAC!

What's the story with ice/refrigeration? Is there any available? I am partial to a frosty brew at the end of a hard day gawking at telescopes. I will bring my esky of course but it is good for a about a day and a half at most.

Hi Monte
There's several fridges available for use in both the bottom and top farmhouses, so you're welcome to use them.
Obviously there'll be softdrink and water in them too.

Yes of course! The Lostock Dam Caravan Park is obviously at the dam turnoff, about 5km out from IISAC. Should only take you 10-15 mins to get there.

We'll have a great time Deeno !
I haven't decided what gear I'll bring with me yet because I don't know whether I'll have the 4WD or the little car.
It will most likely be the little Holden that way I can leave Sue and the kids with the larger 4WD.

Hi Monte,
You bring the brew, I will keep it cold, and you can gawk at my telescope for as long as you like.
Cheers,
John B
PS: It gets very very hot out there, so we need a lotta brew

I couln't find a definitive answer in the thread anywhere, but has anyone taken a Next-G Nokia phone or (more importantly) Next-G-enabled PCMCIA lappy card with them to that area recently? The only way I can safely go is if I can get a reasonably reliable internet connection to check on work things Thursday and friday while I'm there. The way the Next-G system is rolling out (over CDMA) means that signal strength changes constantly in any one location - usually for the better.
Anyone?

When my wife and I went up there a few weeks ago, the NextG worked fine in Gresford but her battery had run out when we were at Lostock so I wasn't able to check it there.
Could probably call Lostock Dam Caravan Park and ask them. At most it might be a 10-15 minutes drive back up the road to get the access.
I tried using my NextG PCMCIA card at night and it didn't work from the bottom farmhouse. I didn't try it at the top of the hill or anywhere else.

Thanks Mike - I'll give them a call.
It'd also be nice to have net access there - so that we could download any necessary drivers or whatnot for people if they needed them.
