Corona Australis

Corona Australis shot last night with Takahashi FS102 with Tak focal reducer fitted and a QHY8 Cooled one shot colour CCD.
The image is a compilation of 18 X 10 minute images with 16 graded as best with IP3. All images were calibrated with Flats Darks and Bias files.

Not the most interesting target to shoot and not the best result.

Got to disagree with you there Doug. It's one of my favourite areas.
I've always liked the way that the dark neb works it's way through the star field before diving under the emission neb . It's so sooty black and dense. Kinda makes you wonder what caused it.

Not bad at all Doug. I have to agree that it is not the most "flashy" of objects to image but it is an interesting target nonetheless.

Nice image.

The dust is fairly faint. Perhaps 15minute exposures may have been the go.

Getting the dust to show up above the background is a trick.

Perhaps also the data is there and it could be extracted more with careful curves and shadows/highlights and even the sponge tool set to burn.

This one I took was with an FSQ106 at F5 with an STL11000CM one shot colour. It was several hours though and 15mins subs. About 4 or 5 hours total from memory:

Getting the dust to stand out was the processing target and smoothing the noise when I did.

This object is on the top of my list of favs and to-do's.

Thanks for all the comments. Don't get me wrong when I say not the most interesting area. In fact the area is quite different to most other imaging targets in our skies. My real meaning was that although a diferent area it is an area which shows very little on the raw subs and gives little if any idea what the final image will look like. Personally I like the flashy areas which stimulate my thoughts while taking the image by showing a reasonable amount of detail in the raw subs.
