Oh no! Not another NGC 253 (redone)
Thanks for the feedback for my previous effort.
I have flipped the image and reduced some gradients in the original.
Flipping the image not only gives it "a right side up feel" but clearly shows some perpendicular structure to the plane of the galaxy near the core.
I remember a NGC 253 image posted by R.J. Gabany on the SBIG forum showing this structure. There was a debate if it was the real thing or a processing issue.

its that strange thing with the dust lanes, i saw the same one done by R.J. Gabany, as a APOD and it drew my attention. done the way this one is it looks as though the dust is over the centre, flipped the other way it looks over the edge.... its the only one i recall that shows such a difference just by rotating it. SO which is it really.... over the edge or over the centre???

Thanks Clive. For me it looks as if the dust lane is over the centre in both orientations.

Hello Marc. I'm pleased with the result. Seeing conditions were excellent for this one.

First of all, Steve, that's a really good 253! Might look better with the yellow cast gone but then who am I (mr blue cast) to talk .
To me the dust trails clearly "rise" from the galaxy disc and from all over it and this is the best orientation of the galaxy to showcase these amazing structures. clearly revealing these pillars of dust is sign of a good 253 image IMO.
While RJ's version is indeed incredible, for me the best amateur NGC 253 image I have ever seen (perhaps even the best overall vista of the entire galaxy?) was done by the Spiegel team with a 16" Keller RCOS killer in Namibia, for me this is one incredible image! Going by Johannes Schedlers recent work with a 20" version the skies from Namibia must have excellent seeing at times :

Yes a sensational image. One needs excellent seeing conditions to get the best out of high FL optics.
I'll just have to putter along with what I have.
Here is my image further tweaked.

Wonderful image. Great job. And those BRC-250's get you in close.

That was a great shot to start with but every repro you're doing is bringing up more details. What a great picture Ok I'll shut up now.

Wow, that is a magnificent image of the Sculptor. You really got a 3D look there and very detailed. Wonderful Ha areas as well. One of the best I have seen of this one.
Marvellous.
