Orion X-Y Guidestar Finder
i was after one of these when i got my stand alone autoguider, but cost and the unavailability of the item like what Allan Gould has put a stop to that - until now.

Just what the doctor ordered!!

What!!! When!!!! Who!!!! I know Bintel were getting them in, but when did they get them????? I've been waiting for one of these suckers for ages. Or are you just yankin' my chain RB 'cos you knew I'd take the bait.

I'm very interested in one of these!

I saw Bintel advertising it in the lastest AS&T mag and wondered how well it will work. I'm always looking for ways to make finding a guidestar easier. This may be the answer?

Like Matty, I saw them advertised in the latest AS&T and Bintel newsletter so I assume they will have them in soon as they can.

Hutech/Borg are also selling this unit but with some very interesting adapters. Ive been using one for about a year and cant do without it . Makes finding a guidestar easy and the guidescope is rigidly locked down therefore NO flexture

Yea. Orion -$US179 and Hutech -$US215
The way the dollar is falling at the moment cheaper to get from Bintel at $AUD249. The interesting thing is that Hutech have some interesting adapter/couplers to connect rigidly to a scope. It appears to be the same as the Orion but Orion do not appear to offer the adapters.

How do these work exactly? Both ends seem to be 1.25" so how do you move the camera around?

FOV on a guide camera is pretty small. I think my DSI was similar to a 6mm eyepiece, so moving the camera around exposes the chip to different bits of the sky. I would have prefered to see a 2" hole on both sides and a lower price would have been nice too.

Why do you need a 2" hole?
Most guide cameras we use are 1.25"
Anything larger and you're adding unnecessary weight.

That's true RB, but I agree that to be able to move around the full l aperture of a 2" focuser would be great for finding those hard to see suckers for guiding on when imaging away from the galactic plane. Either way I'm getting one

well i did hunt around for a 2" guiding reticule - i would have bought one if i found it. more comfortable eye relief, and the fact you can say you have a 2" reticule LOL.

This thing could also work on a imaging camera to frame a shot and prolly a few things I haven't thought of, so I'd prefer to have a 2" option available. My guide cameras are 2" with a 1.25" nose piece, it would be nice if this thing was similar. The Hutech one seems to do it on the scope side.

This would be useful... It allows the guide scope to be rigidly mounted which means less flexure, and flexure drives me nuts.
According to Hutech, the accessories thread into this thing. Orion mention a 2" nosepice as well. I wonder if it uses standard T-threads or something larger? Depending on the thread it uses, just about anything could be fitted to it.
