Mercury, Venus and Mars from NZ

My first post with pics here. Once I spotted Mercury and Venus side by side on my walk home after a long day at work I knew the first thing I'd be doing once I got home.. setting up my tripod and camera to get some shots of them! Looked brilliant with my 20x80 binos as they both fit nicely into the field of view. The portrait shot has Mars in the top right corner of the field. Taken with a Canon 450D using a Sigma 70-300 APO lens from Wellington, New Zealand. Ive downsized the shots to make them more reasonable to view. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Troy

A couple of very atmospheric photos – thanks for sharing them. Gee, the skies look pristine in that location.

Cheers

The skies do indeed look clear and heading towards dark! Although our oppinions of what pristine skies are, are somewhat tainted by our hellishly ugly looking brisbane conditions... It's like looking up through a muddy puddle at the best of times...

Thanks guys! It was one of the best nights I've seen in a few months for Wellington and what luck to get Mercury and Venus side by side! By the time I packed up the scope and went inside around 10pm it was showing 0.7C on my deck....
