Hi Guys,

There's an item i want from Orion Telescope but they only sell to American/Canadian residents only? Has anyone bought anything from them directly? and if so, whats the process ?

You could try this company www.boxvoyage.com. If the item is small enough you should have no problems.

Have a look at this thread for more info,

Can you not get the item through one of the major US shops like OPT?

Or is it a Orion only special?

cheers guys, thanks for your reply. what i want is this:

http://www.telescope.com/control/pro...oduct_id=08881

I know there are better focusers out there but this is the only focuser which fits my scope. The standard base plate focusers such as the ones you'll find in GSO's don't fit.

Ive been searching around and the only place which sells them are direct from Orion or Amazon which refers you back to Orion.

Don't know if i can trust www.boxvoyage.com .....

I queried one of them from sirius optics and they quoted over AU$300. But they could get them.

[edit]
That price may have been with motor focus, can't remeber.

Have you looked at JMI? They custom make base-plates for the diameter of the telescope.

Absolutely you can Eric. I'll vouch for them without hesitation. We have bought plenty of (even bulky) stuff through them and it has all arrived on time and on budget every time. They are great to deal with and he's an Aussie to boot.

You could get the same baseplate effect by modifying a GSO focuser plate with a file if you took your time. If that is the reason to go with Orion and its is causing grief then it would be worth having a look at either getting one modified at a workshop or doing it yourself.

I know that Bintel also stock some Orion gear selectively...you might give them a ring and see about pricing etc.

Hi Eric,

I bought once from orion but not directly. I asked my friend in USA for permission to give his address and he redirected it to me after he received it.
So if you have some firends there who can do the same that will solve this problem.

cheers,

Mike

The website mentions that the largest box size is 18x12x12 inches. I take it from your post that they can in fact do larger items on request. Is this the case? What's the max size have you used them for?

Regards,
Nick.

G'Day Nick

Yup - He (Aaron) goes out and gets quotes when boxes are bigger than that.

G'day

You might like to try MoonLite as well. They will custom machine anything by request. Great workmanship as well.

Actually they will sell directly to any nationality, but they won't ship overseas. I have a friend who travels to California so he picks stuff up for me. There are some good retailers who charge same price as Orion and do ship over seas. OPT comes to mind.
