40D - NGC6357 Emission Nebula

NGC 6357 Emission Nebula in Scorpius

A lineup of four 7th magnitude stars point to the heart of this faint emission nebula.

We found the nebula emits very strong HA colour as we had only red nebula in our subs taken with our unmodded 40D.

I love the foreground stars and have tried to get a feeling of 'shining' stars in our image. Hope you like it.

Barb

We are already using an MPCC corrector Rob, it was possibly collimation.

Great capture Barb & Dave, There is some good detail in the nebulosity and I agree with your comments about the stars, they add a nice dimension and effect to the overall image.

Cheers

Wow not bad for an 8" .... can't wait to get my 4OD.

Is there a Deep Space filter (or similar) between the camera and the mirror to cut down on light pollution ?

Next job for me - reassemble the 10" f4.7 newtonian ota.

Image looks good, your focus is spot on with the diffraction spikes as sharp as. Youve done really well with the amount of Ha the 40d has captured..... or could it just be good processing. Either way nice

No light pollution filter used Ian, the only thing between the camera and the secondary mirror is a mpcc coma corrector. Our skies are semi dark.

The subs had only red nebulosity and it took a bit of processing to drag it out and were surprised by how much could be extract with processing. Like to see you do this one with the QHY8 Clive

The nebula is very striking Doug once you draw the detail out.

I wondered if I had overdone the colour Robert but it looked pretty striking so I just went with it.
