Southern Cross treasures

Hi Folks,

Recently I managed to capture an image of the Southern Cross constellation along with famous Eta Carinae nebulae. The weather was very good which allowed to get quite a deep view of this area.

Kenko Skymemo, Canon 400D (Hutech mod.), Canon 50/1.4 @ 2.8, ISO800, 30 x 4 min

High-resolution image (1600x950, 1.1Mb) is right here: http://tinyurl.com/5o42q7

Thanks for looking !

Great composition Yuri. Wow, clusters are plentiful. I don't think I can recall I've seen the coal sack presented so aesthetically. Well done. Looking forward to your next post.

Yes a very lovey image indeed Antu!

I really enjoyed looking at this image because it brought back fond memories from the mid 80's when I was a young man doing film photography, I photographed this field a few times with colour film and a 50mm lens, here is a poor scan of one of my old prints

and one done with B&W film:

I was rather proud of these 24 years ago, now they are pretty lame really .

ah, yes...those were the days...

Thanks again

Mike

That really is marvellous, thanks very much and congratulations. It's mind-boggling to think there are so many stars in that direction!

Now the challenge - can anyone circle the Blue Planetary for me, please. I'm not sure which blue spot it is. I want to confirm why it's been such a challenge to locate. I did it once and it's about time I tried again.

Thanks guys for all your comments ! I really appreciate them. To obtain this image I used Kenko Skymemo portable mount: http://www.sciencecenter.net/hutech/kenko/skymemo/

Mike, your images are timeless ! I really love this region of the sky. Indeed it's very rich with star clusters, dark and emission nebulae. I think I was a bit lucky, the very good weather and dark sky cooperated with me.

A wonderful widefield Yuri. Have to agree with Jase the first thing we noticed was the amazing capture of the coal sack.
