C/2007 W1 Boattini - 9th May

Here is my very first image of a comet.

After seeing some great image of Comet Boattini posted in the IIS forums I decided to capture it for myself.

Taken with my Canon 450D through my Celestron 8SE SCT f/6.3 on a Alt-Az mount.

8 x 30 second subs and minimal processing in PS CS3. I tried a few different stacking techniques in DSS and this one was the best.

Thanks for looking.

Matty that one must have taken a bit of finding, very faint, but you have captured it nicely.

Thanks Leon,

Fortunately the coordinates off Heavens above were extremely accurate putting the comet in the FOV.

I still have more images to process of this comet so hopefully there will be some kind of improvement.

Nice image.
Actually it isn't too faint now. I could see it in the finderscope last Wed night when I looked at it.

Here are two images that have been reprocessed from the original.

What do you think?

Great shots Matty, you have done well!
It is a nice and high target at the moment, so with a nice clear sky there is plenty of time for imaging.
You never know what this comet is going to do.

Keep it up mate.

Thanks for the kind words,

Longer subs would have been nice to bring out the comet a bit more.

It's going to be great next month.

Amazing you're able to image this comet with an Alt-Az mount Matty.

Yes thats verey well done for an Alt Az mount. because the comet is scooting along you cant do real long subs even with a eq mount or the comet will trail
