Lagoon Nebula in narrowband

Hi all, another narrowband image. This time it is the Lagoon Nebula (M8) taken last night through the LX200R 12" with the DSI II Pro at f/3.3 and using 13nm narowband filters.

The images were taken at 8 second subs x 100 with Envisage, combined in MaximDL as HOS for RGB and tweaked in Paint Shop Pro.

Ric It looks like you captured that region very well indeed, the colours are different to what I would expect, but then I don't quite know what Narrow Band means.

So other than the fact that it is obviously well captured, I will say no more.

Ric,

The narrow band puts an intersting twist on the colour of the image. It looks nice and sharp.

Are you saving the uncombined images and post stacking?

Hi Seeker, I used a HOS palette with this one. I believe the Hubble palette is SHO.

Hi Peter, I take the images as fits3p and save all uncombined images. I then post stack in MaximDL and reject any duds.

Thanks Leon, it's still quite a brave new world to me as well and I still have heaps to learn as well. glad you liked it though.

I would like to try some narrowband imaging one day

Nice one Ric,

For such short subs the detail is very good. Maybe you could even raise the FL to 6.3 and get a bigger image scale for some planetaries. When are you going to start using the wedge and guiding?

Thanks Gary, narrowband imaging is quite a fascinating area. while I enjoy the traditional colours I find that you are a lot less bound to the colours

Hi Paul, I have been considering buying a f/6.3 FR or even trying some imaging at f/10

The wedge is seeing little use at the moment as the setup and aligning really eats into imaging time. I'm hoping to get the obsevatory built within the next 8 months, that way I'll be able to permanently setup and really get things cooking.

Thanks Jase, I must admit I do like the Starlight Express cameras but a new camera is a little way off at the moment. Unfortunately there are a few higher prioritys at the farm at the moment.
