Two new images with the 40D

Two images taken on Sunday night. We think they are up there with the best we have taken with the 40D.

Centaurus A
... Stack of 14 Lights - 7min ... ISO800 .... No Darks ( there's a story to the reason why )

Trifid
... Stack of 18 Lights - 7min ... ISO800 ... 10 Darks ... ISO800

When I started the imaging run on Cent A, the temp was 13deg and I knew I had darks in storage at temps of 13-12deg and another lot at 12-11deg. and was counting on using either of these as darks for Cent A.

Then all of a sudden the temp dropped to 9deg. DSS would not accept the temp difference.

That will teach me to keep a closer eye on things.

Anyway the image turned out reasonably well considering no darks - really like this camera Clive, the background comes up very smooth and I am impressed with the overall results it is giving us.

Thanks Clive for your comments on these images and advice you have given us on processing over the past few months.

David

David and Barb, they are up there with the best that I've seen from any DSLR.

I congratulate you both.

Yep, add me to the list of believers, very nice, and as has been said incredible to think a DSLR can return this sort of result.

Excellent results you two! The trifid is a beauty! and the Centaurus A is very nice as well considering there is no darks!

Just curious but does the camera store details on the temperature in the raws? just wondering how DSS would know?
cheers Gary

Appreciate your comments Gary. It's sure easy to improve when you have a good DSLR to work with

A big well done to the both of you they are two very excellent images.

The colours are very natural looking and the sharpness and level of detail is spot on.

Cheers

We feel for you Eric. Everything is not going well for you.

We're extremely happy with our 40D unmodded and won't be considering modding it at all at this stage.

Gary just not sure but when we try and stack darks with a large difference in temp DSS doesn't want to do it.

Maybe there's some other reason. We're still trying to work it out ourselves
