Horse Head from Glebe

Hi Guys

I wasn't going to post this as it's not very good but it's been a while. My second hand SBIG 2K arrived but until i get the field unit (dc adaptor) i cant leave my backyard. The backyard only has about a 5 degree window through trees so i cant do much

Anyway, the camera seems fine, though I have nothing to compare the noise against. The tracking works and after initial frosting I baked the dessicant plug and after a few days can now get to -20 C without any frosting.

So all in all everything appears to work. This image was 5 by 5 minute exposures at -15 C, 0.8 reducer, TV85, EQ6 self guided with the SBIG.

I had to really push it in PS2 to get anything; and i had the dew shield down so there is some lens flare from some stray neighbours light; and of course being in Glebe there is a lot of LP.

The SBIG has a learning curve but the ability to take darks at the correct temperature and keep a library saves lots of time and means you can just worry about the lights.

The setup seems far more stable on the EQ6 as opposed to a second guide scope and camera.

All in all i am reasonably pleased but wont be happy until I can get out of my backyard and see how it really performs.

Thanks for looking, and sorry about all my excuses for a poor image

Paul

Nothing wrong with that! You need some flats, though.

Great first light!

Great start Paul. Certainly better than my first light image. Looking at the image in PS, there are some subtle details still hiding in the histogram data. However the data is not good enough to be stretched further. You need more data and as Mike indicates some flats (dust motes are present and fov isn't evenly illuminated). Once you've got your calibration library sorted, you should be well on the way to delivering some impressive images. Look forward to seeing more.

Paul,

Needs some work.

In a light polluted environment flats are almost as important as darks to get the calibration right.

Focus is a bit off.

Looks like the chip also needs a clean.

That said, getting the HH from Gelbe (!) ..hey you can run the marathon, but driving is sooo much easier

Thanks Jase,

I might have started better than you, but if i can finish half as well I will be very happy

Flats are definately on the list, as for more data I only have a 30 minute window between trees, so I am waiting on my adaptor dc/dc so I can get out of the backyard and get some more!

No doubt, focusing is far different from the DSLR and I cant seem to fix the right focus yet.

I will clean the chip but at the moment I just got it to stop frosting and dont want to open it up just yet as I will have to bake the dessicant and wait 3 or 4 days again.

HH from Glebe. Well, I dont get out of town much so I have to try. Still that was under 30 minutes. Once I can go longer I hope to be able to get all the HH I want, limted only by my patience.

Thanks for all the comments

Paul
