Jupiter, Io/shadow transit, Brisbane, Feb 23

Nice to get my Jupiter account opened.

Managed to grab a few AVI's of the Io shadow transit before the rising sun took all my fun away!

This is the result of one AVI picked at random and given a quick treatment through Registax4 and PS7.

The seeing was quite nice at around 5am local time.

Very encouraging for the approaching opposition of the king

Excellent work, Matt! Great detail and resolution. One of the best I've seen this season so far.

I was trying to capture it this morning too, but a strong wind and bad seeing limited any resolution of fine details.

I'd suggest copying Io as a new image, re-aligning the RGB channels using the "channels" palette, and then pasting it back over the top of your combined jupiter + io image. Io will then look much better.

Cheers guys.

Can't wait until Jupiter's reaching the +50 degree mark in altitude and the skies are clear and steady.

I'll be breaking out the 4x Powermate and throwing the DMK and filter wheel on the back of the 9.25

That’s a cracker of an image Matt, thanks for reminding me of what Jupiter looks like! I’m glad you managed to get out and grab this one, I didn’t have the courage to ask Narelle if I could do an all nighter on her birthday; I’m not as brave, or foolhardy as H0ughy! .

Lost none of your skills eh. Good job. Captured, processed and posted within the hour.

Cheers

Cheers, Dennis.

Maybe I should take a little longer over the processing, hence the slight misalignment on the red/blue channels on Io...

I do think I often hurry the processing in the excitment to get an image up and share the data.

It's just so much fun seeing the detail emerge from even the most basic processing.

And there's a GRS transit tomorrow morning...so clear that with the Mrs!
