Cool,

The first one looks like Mars if it had some water and clouds. Maybe once we Terraform it?

"Fjords where always my favorite, You know I won an award for Norway" - Slartybartfast.
I might re-watch hitchhikers guide during this wet weather. ( Original series, not that horrible thing Hollywood pumped out.)

Hard to believe that Douglas Adams was involved with the movie... His mind must have been going.

Actually won an award... Golden Trailer, most original. Goes to show you can't judge a movie by it's trailer.

Hi Chris,

Very nice! May I ask, what type of tool set did you use to create the texture maps?

Best Regards

Gary

Be very careful posting such images. If you don't watch out, you might by chased by a George Lucas or Star Trek graphic artist for one of their high budget movies!

Have you ever tried to use POV-Ray software for planet creation? This can be done through the mathematical construction., and comes as an example with this free program from http://www.povray.org/. (planet.pov)
Haven't done this for years, but samples of some of these can be viewed at;

http://news.povray.org/povray.binari...234863&moff=10

http://news.povray.org/povray.beta-t...254898&toff=50

Samples like these are often used for generating planets for video games.

Andrew

Ah ha! Someone had to ask how I became so skilful in creating such complex textures and wrapping them around a sphere!

OK - the truth's out - I used a Photoshop plugin for CS2 (and newer - MacOSX native and Universal) & Windows, and PaintShop Pro called "LunarCell" from Flaming Pear. Free demo plugins at http://www.flamingpear.com/download.html You can create entire planets of varying colour and complexity - or user their realistic moon template to create your own.

I also use their "Flood" plugin which lets you do nice things like this:

Great thread name, as soon as I saw It I knew what you were doing

I'm actually a big fan of the movie, but the original 1970's radio plays are still my favorites, as are the ones done in 2005 to wrap it all up. (Sir Patric Moore lent his voice for some of them )

Thanks Chris, just downloaded a few of those plugins. More toys to play with while the clouds are here
I loved the original Hitch Hikers Guide, Slatybarfast is probably my favourite character. As for the Hollywood version, best consigned to obscurity where it belongs.

Hehe.. no worries Bill

Yeah - I'm a fan of the original radio plays. I recorded them off our radio back in 1978 or thereabouts straight to cassette. I still have the 12 tapes somewhere....

After the radio plays came the books - which were OK. Then came the video series which was awful.

Then came the recent movie which was a complete and utter let-down to all dedicated Hikers. May the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal eat the producer.

Ahh.. that's better. Off to create some crinkly bits......

I'm actually a huge H2G2(and Dirk Gently, and Last Chance to See) fan and really enjoyed the movie.
Mos Def was brilliant and I fell in love with Trillian, those eyes....
The 'Cotton' scene had me laughing for ages, very clever, especially the puke, haha.
Douglas himself wrote the script and had a huge roll in the creation of it, although he was unfortunately not around for the filming and editing which is a shame.
I have only one criticism, the use of an 'unknown' director who had never shot a feature movie before.... the actors tended to mumble which made it kinda hard to follow at times and was something the director should have addressed during filming and post production.
Actually two, Zaphod's second head should have been as per original, wouldn't have been very difficult to do with today's computers.

Omaroo, if you're interested in the 2005 radio plays, the Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phases, they are available for download:
http://www.sadena.com/hh/
They feature all the original cast(except for those that have sadly passed away) and many guest appearances.
They are also available as Torrents with higher bitrates for better audio quality -probably ripped from the CD's.(which you might find at your local library)

Anyway, getting way OT.....
