Gso Dobs

i note quite a few using the GSO- i would like to get more glass then my AR5 since i like looking for faint fuzzies but have a limited budget thus considering one of the 10 inch circus cannons= found a place up here that has 10 inch GSO reasonbly priced but not being familiar with the scope i would appreciate any advise or comments on the optical quality and overall feedback on the scope itself thanks and clear skies to all rocco WB9QPU

my 10 " is great and have no complaints , havn't really heard of anyone
having any problems with these budget priced scopes.

fyi the the Zhumell scopes sold up your way are a rebadged gso

They are brilliant FOR THE PRICE. Don't expect them to compete with a premium scope but for most observers they are more than adequate.

Yep i love my 12inches. wouldn't swap it for anything. Just wish the clouds would bugger off.

Andrews have some new prices on their dobs too. Getting really cheap now.
No mention of the 16" any more though.

I bought mine about 8 months ago and don't regret it a bit. Best bang for your buck. It's worth noteing that the optics used by GSO is the same as those used by Meade in their Lightbridges.

Go for it.

Ahh, a fellow American. And Illinois...yes, that's native american language for land of perpetual cloud, right?

GSO is a good scope, as said a very good way to get aperture for minimal cost. Some issues of performance - mainly mechanical and most amenable to tinkering.

Given the above, the gso is a great choice. I do recommend spending the bit extra to get the dual speed focuser with fine focus knob. After experiencing the difference I would never want to be without it. I haven't heard of anyone regretting going for that option.

Agreed. I got to use Scotts (Tannehill) on his 12" last Friday night, and now I want one for my 12"

Thanks to all for the responses- did not realize the same optics were in the other scopes- looks like i will have one of circus cannons sent- hopefully the skkies will clear here someday -Tannehill -you got it right it has not been clear here since Christmas nite from looking at my log- since i work overnights i can also say that the hours before dawn are no better- it has been mild up here for this time of year 10-20f but i understand that is going to change this week oh well back into the freezer-regards to all down under hoping for clear skies soon rocco WB9QPU

My 10" GSO gives great views of both DSO's and planets (well only seen Saturn so far) and don't regret buying it one bit. Can really pump the magnification on planetaries when needed I've got the 10:1 focuser and now I couldn't live without one.

On the basis of the mainly positive reviews and reports I read on these forums I ordered a GSO 12" super deluxe package from Andrew's and it should be here tomorrow! It will be my first scope, after years of astronomy with nothing more that a pair of Pentax 10X50 binos in one hand and an ancient HV McKay Melbourne Museum planeterium planisphere in the other hand!

I will post my review when I eventually drag myself away from it or after the sun comes up.
