Mike 'Iceman' Salway has a GSO 12" Dob on a Skywatcher EQ6 mount and gets amazing imaging results. The EQ6 would be the minimum size of mount for a 12" Dob.

Mike takes planetary images where you take hundreds of photos and keep just a few with a webcam. For DSO work where long exposures are required an EQ6 would probably not be strong enough.

Just my opinion but a 12 inch dob on an EQ6 mount with a bit of wind on a 4 minute exposure and the result would be all over the place.

For visual it may be OK, but if its just for visual why dont you get some digital setting circles, like an argo narvis. Then you would not need the EQ mount.

fair comment there, for long exposures youd want to go to a G11 or bigger and to get goto would set you back over $ 4000.00

And can it be done ... yep .... i did mine... and add to the cost making custom made mounting plates having custom made rings and all the stuff needed for imaging......... Geez i could have bought a nice new car........

Still for the good of the nation and the forwarding of science , sacrifices have to be made.....

if you are just after some form of goto rather than imaging id definately just go for the argo navis, its far easier and faster to setup and use than an EQ mount and just as accurate.
