We are the Night

review - bought this Chemical Bros CD a little while ago - i was impressed with the astronomy themes - in both the artwork and some pieces/ the cd book is all astro themes - with what looks to be made up constellations star charts - lol
I'm not a big techno fan overall, more a blues - prog/jazz rock guy - it seems more novelty/digital purity sensory BIG fun like a showride (uploud on good system or live! which i have done once) than anything else, not highly cerebral! leave brain behind just need to be of the human strain - but i have always had a softspot for the mainstream crossover act chem bros, and some others. But they have never done anything as good as 'dig your own hole' from the 90's IMO. i liked 'push the button' last album before this.

while this album isnt the greatest ever by them by any stretch of the imagination, and its certainly no 'must have' album - it is very retro (warm analogue synths in the mix - juno 6's & 8's ect.) in some ways - anyway i get bored of these type of albums so new stuff now and then doesnt hurt.
thought it was worth a mention just the same

cool site love the astro theme

hey! I've got a Juno 60 staring at me now as well as a Moog Theramin. They go brilliantly with the Tascam 308 and 34! )

Jeez a Theramin!!! For real? The light beam based instrument!?
Just googled it - $449US WOW!!!!
I loved the Moog Pro Tools RTAS Plugins - the moogerfooger is a classic!
This thread is going way off topic. (Perhaps not, just rechecked - not astro related)

lol you're certainly a person of good taste in synths/audio have a mate who has a 308 who looooves it, does sound damn nice. he picked it up for a song way back, before they made a slight comeback i hear modern studios are re-mastering from puter onto 2" tape then back again, to warm it up a bit, but i think that appllies to retro sounding stuff moslty?, jazz ect. anyway cool toys!

Hi Ric,
they really do put out that 'big beat' so well hey, their drum sounds always amaze me

hey Doug, do you have the full blown protools setup with intefaces/ad converters ect.!? thats a pretty serious set up!
i'm still using GB 3 no extras! lol - and leaning to full logic pro, like the mac connection/midi side and can use any peripheals i want - like a presonus firebox.
besides i'm only doing one track at a time layered idea sketchbook type stuff, not recording simultaneous analogue like an orchestra for instance

Unfortunately Not!!!!!!!
At its height - my Pro Tools setup was a Strawberry imac running Pro Tools Free and heaps of Limewire sourced RTAS plug ins!!
Great fun...

Using GB2 on my eMac now which is fun too. Bass amp: IK Ampeg plug in.
Drums: "Drums on Demand" Loops.
Cheers

ahh sorry - yeh pretty pricey setup!yikes, supposed to be the best hardware a/d converters available some say with their propietry stuff

anyway GB is freakin awesome, to me at least being the only DAW i have anything to do with really, cept my old roland vs 880 i had years ago, but that was basic compared to even this era's free computer stuff!

EDIT: only problem i can really see with GB is that its too CPU hungry, with all that no brainer GUI interface bloating out, so you do need something stronger/leaner

i hear the PC guys are very jealous of GB, and are waiting patently for it to come out on PC - which it apparently is? i think

have yet to get any plug ins mate - looked into a drum one a bit one time - i'll get there ill have to check the ones you mentioned out thanks!
i like physically playing the drums in built up layers, till it sounds like a full kit, on a midi controller anyway, loops are better in some instances i for sure, i love the loops ive heard so far!
in the old days i programmed a few drum machines for a 100 song rep small act i was in a decade or so ago, being a bass player at the time, had to decipher the cover songs and convert to a written homemade format, then laboriously tap the individual parts in, learnt a lot about playing drums very quickly, but thats how much i disliked drummers by this time, i did it out of spite

nah! magnetic fields, not light.

it goes brilliantly with the warwick and the ovation.

then, when I want drums, I use pulsars.

yeah, but not only for retro stuff, from what I hear, pretty much across the board. Tape sales are going through the roof, compared to the past few years, almost like it was pre digital, from what I heard from the Ampex people I was talking to a while ago.

.....hmmm going from In Search of Space to Herman's pre analogue recording studio! No wonder my mornings are surreal!!

BTW then I was led to the Addams' I didn't know they did a 'New' family in 98
good to see the original is still there...remakes don't cut it in my opinion.

You wouldn't want to see the room I'm banished to, no door at the moment so my music has to be quieter so we can hear the DIN of the kids!
