DeepSkyStacker - turning Tifs into JPGs?

I played with DSS for the first time today - six RAW images where read, stacked and processed into a final image - a TIF format file.

Photoshop CS2 can read this TIF - and further process it - but what is the simplest way to turn this TIF into a JPG? For some reason Photoshop CS2 won't convert a TIF into a JPG.

Any suggestions?

G'Day g_day,

CS2 certainly will change a TIFF to a JPEG... I'm guessing you have layers in the TIFF file. JPEGs don't support layers, so what you'll need to do is open the file, select Layer, Flatten Image, then Save As and JPEG should appear as an available filetype.

Alternatively, you could simply open your TIFF file and go straight to Save for the Web.

Your tiff file is probably in 16 bit format, you need to first change the mode to 8 bit.

Go to Image | Mode and select 8 bit

then do as Al Sheeny states.

Many thanks guys - I will try these suggestions.

I did find out Maxim DL can change TIFs into JPGs - how confusing!

Yep - changing for 16 to 8 bit enables JPGs to be selected - here is the result:
