Spiral Planetary

Hi all, this is my first attempt at combining Ha and colour.

This is NGC5189 the "Spiral Planetary" taken with the LX200R and the DSI II using a 13nm Ha filter and then standard Meade RGB filters all were processed in Envisage with darks subtracted then combined and tweeked in MaximDL.

The subs were as follows

100 x 12 seconds in Ha
30 each x 12 seconds in RGB

There is still a lot to learn in this area but I am happy with this first attempt.

Looking good Ric
Try some longer exposures if you dont get trailing and it will be even better.
The dsi gives a very good pic with longer exposures.

Hi Ric

You’ve produced a fine image for your 1st H alpha. I’ve yet to go there and I’d be very happy if I managed to get off to such a good start. Did you experience any particular problems with focusing with the H alpha filter?

Mill, I'm looking forward to longer exposures once I go from Alt/Az to Equatorial. I'm still saving for a wedge at the moment.

Dennis, This is my first colour Ha, I haven't had any problems focussing. I actually find it easier to focus with the Ha filter than with the IR/UV filter.

Nicely done Ric, a great first effort for combining Ha and Colour!

A lovely little planetary. Maybe a little yellow/green cast on the background stars but very nice indeed.

Hi Dan, the way it has been described to me is that we observe from side on rather than front on which is what gives it the spiral appearance.
