First ever guided widefield

Hi Guys, as you may have read in the threads last night, i actually learnt to auto guide last night for the first time.

And this image although a little overexposed because of a to high ISO setting was my first effort.

The image consists of only 4 Exp @ 3Min's each, through a Canon 300mm F/2.8Lens with 1.4x extender, making it 430mm focal length, this was attached to a Canon 5D and guided with a Philips Toucam on G11 mount, no flats, ans in camera darks.

Boy that is a mouth full, think i said it all.

Anyway have a look and see what you think, and please feel free to comment, good or otherwise.

Thats next on my list!
The only thing I can pickup is that there seems some vignetting? maybe thats the x1.4 converter ?
You will have to stop down the lense a little or do a flat field image to fix that..

Thanks Guys, yes Gary i do think the 1.4x extender dose give a little vignetting, Im going to give it a try through the Tak 106 tonight if the weather stays clear.

Leon, that is a beautiful image.
The colours are very very nice, and I like the scale. Shows off the area nicely.

Thanks Ken, Yep it turned out fairly good and i have to admit i'm happy with that one for a first try.

I didn't realise what auto guiding was all about until last night, and it certainly works magic.

It is quite funny really to see it all happening on the screen, and to see that star trying to sneak out past the cross hairs and then be pulled back in.

I am hooked.

Forget the 1.4 extender Leon. Just use the native lens in all its optical near perfection. Flat field correction is a must with such fast optics. It is not often you hear 'sorry I over exposed the nebula'. You have the half tank of fuel and the packet of smokes......just go for it and keep going!
