LMC at Astrofest
Hi all,
Just used DSS to stack 3 images of the LMC I took on Thursday night/Friday morning. 3 images approx 5 min each, Canon 400D kit 18 - 55 mm lens, 55 mm, f4.6. Levels and curves adjusted in PS CS2.
I'm a happy chappie

That's a nice looking LMC Tony, with a very pleasing wide field aspect - would make a great looking desktop for Windows I'm thinking....

Funny you should say that... 10 minutes after processing it is on "Agamemnon".
Thanks Jeanette, I am very happy.

Got a call from Brendan tonight and asked how I got colours... realised that I had stacked the jpgs instead of the raws. I have just processed them and the detail is finer, but I (and Anne-Louise) had to play around to get better colour balance. Result:

Terry Cuttles celestron mount... don't know the make, but I think he said it is vintage 20 years. He did a great job at aligning it for me. I need one myself so I can play around. Looking for an eq5 equivalent with polar scope.

That is a very good image, and seems the zoom lens also good for astrophotograhy.
Any idea to modify your 400D?

Thanks Phil,
Yeah, this is the whole image... I don't like to crop much. I think it looks nice as a wide field.

We have an extended warranty to get through before we void it by doing mods. I noticed that the Tarantula did not come out with any colouring, but that is the price we will pay for wanting to use the camera for terrestrial imaging. I did a shot of the Lagoon with the C-90 at Astrofest, as well as 47 Tuc (earlier thread), but it was over balanced and trailed badly, however there was some good colour in it so I can't wait to give it a good test.
