Some images from a flight today with one of my nephews who is studying for his commercial flying license at Pt Cook. Went to the Latrobe Valley for a cup of coffee via Moorabbin and Leongatha. Of course then we went back.
It is really strange to see the countryside so green and wet. All the farm dams seemed to be full. All taken with the 5DH with a Hutech filter which brings it back to unmodded.
Here are a few more. Someone asked if I had any flying experience and I answered yes. I used to fly lighties and even a Bellanca (Decathlon) a fully aerobatic aircraft and last flew in command in 1984. One young lad said 'Gee thats before I was born!'
My nephew Matthew is only 19 and he was quite pleased I had no hesitation flying with him. He has more hours of solo (without instructor) navs to rack up and I will go on a few more. Next time weather permitting we will get a high resolution pic of Kens place in Snake Valley. Weather was marginal for a solo nav yesterday westwards of Pt Cook therwise would have gone that way.
The first pic is of the new tollway with Mt Dandenong in the background. The second is Melbourne CBD. Third Williamstown in the foreground and the You Yangs on the horizon. Fourth is Pt Cook Airforce Base from downwind leg of the circuit.
I had forgotten how much fun it used to be.Exif data should be intact on all images.
Fantastic, Bert! Nice photographs. There is nothing like flying in a light plane. I've had a few opportunities, but the best was a many week trip in the late 70s - Sydney --> Cairns --> Mornington Island --> Mt Isa --> Alice --> Uluru --> Andamooka --> Broken Hill --> Sydney, stopping where-ever we felt inclined. Great fun to just drop into Dunk Island for a look and a swim, then off on our way! The pilot got his hours well up so he was happy!
Nice pics Bert; Flying's fun, but a bit expensive nowdays, you can buy quite a good EP for the price of a single hour's hire. GST and the privatisation of airports has almost killed general aviation.
really interesting bert
i popped out to camden airport last weekend and decided that a flight in a tigermoth would make a really nice birthday present for next year
would a polarising filter have helped with some of that glare?
