First try with wide field.
This is a stack of 12 * 30 seconds iso800 F5.6 at 200mm.
Processed in Registax 4 and further processed in cs3.
Star trailing is present because the tripod wasn't setup properly
No guiding.
Camera Minolta dimage 7i
Can anyone tell me what these are? (could not find it in The Sky).
South next to crux.

Nice shot Mill!
The neb is NGC3372 Eta Carinae nebula, while NGC3532 is the open star cluster top-centre. There is no Crux!?
Cheers -

As Rob say, sorry ol' bean but you have missed Crux by about 6 degrees.
At 200mm FL then you would only be able to expose for 5 sec and not get trailing.
t = 1000/FL (near the pole) and t = 700/FL ( near the celestial equator)

Was that with a standard camera tripod or with an equatorial mount?

It was with an equatorial mount Paul, but not properly polar aligned.
Still have to master that.

Hi jeanette my next target will be ..............Eta Carinae nebula
Easy to do and practice on.
Joking aside, i first want to get one thing just about perfect and only then move to the next.

mill,
Nicely done. As with a couple of other images posted in the forum, I opened them in Photoshop, removed the redundant (overlapping) images and tried processing them. There's usually a lot more data hidden in the images than you would think.
The second image is a vast improvement on the first.
You got one of my favourite clusters!
Well done.
Regards,
Humayun
