Jupiter - 26 May - 1319UT - Canberra

The seeing was very nice tonight.

Detail was popping out from everywhere on the laptop screen. So, I went AVI mad and captured about 30.

It's going to take ages to chug through the lot, but here's the result of a quick process of one chosen at random.

Very happy with the level of detail.

Haven't captured Red Jr for a while, and it's very nicely resolved in this image.

Will post more images from tonight's session later, if any of the other AVIs turn out to hold better data.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful image, Matt! Lovely detail and colour.

I hope there's better to come, and an animation! That could be your best Jup yet!

Thanks, Mike.

The seeing is indeed very good.

I hope other IISers were out in it.

This is rare stuff for this time of year, especially around Canberra.

Very happy

Thanks, mate.

I'm actually really surprised with the level of detail in this one.

The swirls and ripples in the NEB are, I think, the most detailed I've ever captured in this region of Jove and the detail around the North polar region is also very pleasing.

It's a bit of a surprise because the humidity here is in the 90s tonight and the dew is shocking.

Thanks for your kind comments.

Wow - that is a stunner, Matt. The mighty Jove looks very natural, a testimony to the seeing, your setting up, acquisition and processing skills. Top job and I look forward to the other AVI's.

Cheers

They're all about the same, Mike. Which is a good thing, since they're all quite nice.

Haven't done an animation for a while. Not since my first and only a couple of months ago.

I'll have a look

Hey Matt, that's a great image - well done. I've been looking at the nice weather the last few days, glad to see someone around here is taking advantage of it. I probably won't have a chance to image before the trip at the end of this week...

cheers, Bird

Looks even better today on the work LCD. Excellent shot, very smooth adn detailed.

I reckon that's about at the limit of what you can achieve with the ToUcam and the 925, Matt (seeing dependant).

Time to get that DMK cranking and move to the next level!

Wow Matt, great image of the oval BA. You have a lot of details inside the picture.
I tried to reprocess the image (just few jpeg artifacts). Hope you like it.

Cheers, Anto

Hi Anto.

Thanks for your comments and the reprocess.

Can you please provide details of the processing you carried out?

Many thanks

Great capture Matt, well done !

Hope you don't mind, I had a quick play with your image too.
Just adjusted the black, white and grey midpoints in PS.
Then finished it with a slight unsharp mask.
Re-saving a jpg unavoidably introduces a few more artifacts though.

I'd vote for Matt's original processing, very smooth and natural looking. Fantastic image, by the way, Matt. Just dripping with detail. You must be very pleased with this.

Thanks for that, Graeme.

Yes. Am very pleased, particularly given the time of year. Canberra is not very kind conditions-wise outside of a few months of the year.
